An ensemble musical for an all female cast, 'The Bachelor Girls' tells the story of a forgotten generation through period inspired music and dance.
1919, London: the dawn of the 'modern girl'. In a generation where only 1 in 10 women will get married, what do the other nine do? Glamorous MOLLY, bookish GERTIE and sweetly naive CECILY are thrown into the world of flappers, dances, equal voting rights, love and loss. What happens when everything you have aspired to is taken away by war? Can their friendship survive as they fight to achieve their dreams? Written for an all-female cast, The Bachelor Girls uses 1920s style music and dance to tell a story of friendship and solidarity in extraordinary circumstances.
THE BACHELOR GIRLS is designed for a mid-size ensemble cast (minimum 12) and band (5-6). While events are loosely based on histories from the period, ‘The Bachelor Girls’ is an original story.
‘Jen Green and Caroline Wigmore’s The Bachelor Girls is a coming-of-age tale that expresses the history and timelessness of feminism. The musical’s message is clear: 1919 and 2019 aren’t so different, it asserts, though it doesn’t need to allude to any modern politician or conflict to do so. The authors present characters grappling with a changing political landscape and the clash between tradition and individuality...The Bachelor Girls is, above all, is fun.’
