Don't Wake the Bear
The Legend of White Bear Lake is a retelling of a Native American legend, for which the city White Bear Lake is named. This atmospheric musical explores age old "Romeo and Juliet" themes, while also nodding to modern issues such as war, racial tensions and love. The story is told using a company of anthropomorphised forest animals, represented through movement and puppetry.
A Maiden and a Brave live in separate feuding animal tribes on either side of a lake. Both tribes live in fear of the terrifying White Bear, who will wake from his slumber and destroy them all if anyone dares to cross to the opposite side of the lake. Curious about each other, the Maiden and the Brave meet on the lake in a canoe after the sun goes down. Gradually their relationship develops, but when their respective tribes learn of their friendship, war breaks out, and the White Bear is woken...
